China’s new loans down in Feb (Straits Times)
SHANGHAI - CHINESE banks extended 700.1 billion yuan (S$143 billion) in new loans in February, down sharply from January, the central bank said on Thursday, amid government efforts to curb lending. The figure was only around half the January amount as China last month marked the annual Lunar New Year, the nation's most important holiday and a time when much business activity shuts down.
